2-3 Day Dordogne Itenary from Belvès
Belvès is an ideal base for exploring the Dordogne, with many of the region’s most beautiful villages and landscapes within easy reach.
This itinerary gives you a relaxed way to explore the area over 2 or 3 days, combining well-known highlights with quieter, more local routes.
Day 1 - Around Belvès
Visit Marnac, Berbiguières & Saint-Cyprien Loop.
Start your stay with a gentle introduction to the area, exploring the villages closest to Belvès.
This short circular route is easy to follow and keeps driving to a minimum, making it ideal for your first day.
Begin in Belvès, one of the most beautiful villages in the Dordogne, known for its medieval streets, historic market hall and panoramic views
Head to Marnac (11 mins), a quiet village with a simple but photogenic church and a peaceful, rural feel
Continue to Berbiguières (4 mins), where you’ll find traditional stone architecture and a historic château that once formed part of the defensive network of nearby Castelnaud
Finish in Saint-Cyprien (7 mins), a lively village on the Dordogne river with shops, cafés and a popular weekly market
The return to Belvès takes around 13 minutes, completing an easy loop of around 18.5 km (25 minutes total driving time).
Tip: Saint-Cyprien’s market (Sunday morning) is one of the best in the area and well worth timing your visit around.
Day 2: Dordogne Valley & Golden Triangle
Beynac-et-Cazenac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, La Roque-Gageac & Domme
This is one of the highlights of any visit to the Dordogne, following the river through some of its most iconic villages and castles.
Start in Beynac-et-Cazenac (around 25 minutes from Belvès), dominated by its dramatic cliff-top château overlooking the river
Continue to Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, just across the valley, known for its impressive fortress and museum of medieval warfare
Head on to La Roque-Gageac, one of the most photographed villages in France, set between the cliffs and the river
Finish in Domme, a bastide village perched high above the valley, offering some of the best panoramic views in the Dordogne
This route takes you through the Dordogne’s famous Golden Triangle, and works perfectly as a circular drive of around 38 km (45 minutes total driving time).
Tip: Try to end your day in Domme — the views at sunset are exceptional.

Monpazier, Biron & Montferrand-du-Périgord
This is one of the most rewarding routes from Belvès, especially if you enjoy quieter villages, open countryside and a more relaxed pace.
A good way to explore this area is to start with Montferrand-du-Périgord, which is around 16 minutes from Belvès and offers a peaceful, less-visited setting with a strong local feel.
From Montferrand, it’s about 11 minutes to Monpazier, one of the best-preserved bastide towns in France, known for its beautiful central square
A further 8 minutes brings you to Biron, where you’ll find an impressive château and far-reaching views across the countryside
Bastide, Abbey Villages & Countryside.
Urval, Cadouin, Saint-Avit-Sénieur & Molières
Urval is one of the most charming small villages near Belvès, with a peaceful, tucked-away feel and traditional stone buildings.
The drive itself is part of the experience. From Belvès, it’s around 11 minutes to Urval, passing Capelou Chapel and the local airfield along quiet countryside roads.
From Urval, it’s a further 11 minutes to Cadouin, known for its historic abbey
From Cadouin, it’s around 9 minutes to Molières, an “unfinished” bastide village where the original layout is still visible
From Molières, it’s just 8 minutes to Saint-Avit-Sénieur, a UNESCO-listed village centred around an impressive fortified abbey church
This route flows naturally from one village to the next, offering a quieter and more varied alternative to the busier river routes, and makes for a relaxed half-day trip combining history, architecture and some of the most atmospheric corners of the Dordogne.
A Perfect Day Trip from Belvès.
Les Eyzies & Limeuil
f you have a little more time, this is one of the best day trips from Belvès, offering something quite different from the other routes.
Les Eyzies, around 28 minutes from Belvès, is often described as the centre of prehistoric Dordogne. Set in a dramatic valley of cliffs and rock shelters, it’s home to museums, cave sites and some of the region’s most fascinating history
From Les Eyzies, it’s around 21 minutes to Limeuil, a peaceful village set at the meeting point of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. Above the village, the panoramic gardens of Limeuil offer beautiful views across the valley and are well worth the short walk
This route combines history, landscapes and a more relaxed atmosphere, making it ideal for a full and varied day out.
