2-3 Day Dordogne Itinerary from Belvès

Belvès is an ideal base for exploring the Dordogne, with many of the region’s most beautiful villages and landscapes within easy reach.

This itinerary gives you a relaxed way to explore the area over 2 or 3 days, combining well-known highlights with quieter, more local routes.

Day 1 - Around Belvès

Visit Marnac, Berbiguières & Saint-Cyprien Loop.

Start your stay with a gentle introduction to the area, exploring the villages closest to Belvès.

This short circular route is easy to follow and keeps driving to a minimum, making it ideal for your first day.

Begin in Belvès, one of the most beautiful villages in the Dordogne, known for its medieval streets, historic market hall and panoramic views

Head to Marnac (11 mins), a quiet village with a simple but photogenic church and a peaceful, rural feel

Continue to Berbiguières (4 mins), where you’ll find traditional stone architecture and a historic château that once formed part of the defensive network of nearby Castelnaud

Finish in Saint-Cyprien (7 mins), a lively village on the Dordogne river with shops, cafés and a popular weekly market

The return to Belvès takes around 13 minutes, completing an easy loop of around 18.5 km (25 minutes total driving time).

Tip: Saint-Cyprien’s market (Sunday morning) is one of the best in the area and well worth timing your visit around.

Day 2: Dordogne Valley & Golden Triangle

Beynac-et-Cazenac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, La Roque-Gageac & Domme

This is one of the highlights of any visit to the Dordogne, following the river through some of its most iconic villages and castles.

Start in Beynac-et-Cazenac (around 25 minutes from Belvès), dominated by its dramatic cliff-top château overlooking the river

Continue to Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, just across the valley, known for its impressive fortress and museum of medieval warfare

Head on to La Roque-Gageac, one of the most photographed villages in France, set between the cliffs and the river

Finish in Domme, a bastide village perched high above the valley, offering some of the best panoramic views in the Dordogne

This route takes you through the Dordogne’s famous Golden Triangle, and works perfectly as a circular drive of around 38 km (45 minutes total driving time).

Tip: Try to end your day in Domme — the views at sunset are exceptional.

Day 3 Option 1: Bastide Villages & Countryside

Montferrand-du-Périgord, Monpazier & Biron Loop

For a quieter and more relaxed day, head south into the rolling countryside.

Start in Montferrand-du-Périgord (around 16 minutes from Belvès), a peaceful village that offers a more local feel

Continue to Monpazier (17 mins), one of the best-preserved bastide towns in France, with its beautiful central square and arcades

Finish at Biron (25 mins), where you’ll find one of the most impressive châteaux in the region, set in open countryside with far-reaching views

This route is especially rewarding if you want to explore beyond the busier river villages and experience a quieter side of the Dordogne.

Day 3 Option 2: A Perfect Day Trip from Belvès.

Les Eysies to Limeuil and back

If you’re looking for something a little different, head towards the Vézère Valley.

Visit Les Eyzies (28 minutes from Belvès), often described as the centre of prehistoric Dordogne. The village sits beneath dramatic limestone cliffs and is home to important archaeological sites and museums

Continue to Limeuil (21 minutes from Les Eyzies), a peaceful village located at the meeting point of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers

Take time to explore the panoramic gardens of Limeuil, which offer beautiful views across the valley and surrounding countryside

This route combines history, landscapes and a slower pace, making it ideal for a full and varied day out.
