As the sun begins to set over the village, the Market Hall fills with the sounds of conversation, music and laughter.

Each Wednesday evening throughout the summer, visitors and locals gather beneath the medieval timber-framed hall for the famous Marchés Gourmands.

Choose from a variety of local producers and food stalls, find a place at one of the long communal tables, and enjoy an evening of authentic Dordogne flavours accompanied by live music and dancing.

It is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience village life in the Périgord Noir.

Music has long been part of village life in Belvès, bringing together residents and visitors in some of the most atmospheric settings of the Périgord Noir. Throughout the year, a varied programme of concerts showcases everything from classical piano and opera to jazz, chanson française and traditional performances.

The 2026 season at La Halle Musicale continues this tradition with a series of concerts held in the historic Salle d'Honneur de la Mairie. Known for its intimate atmosphere and excellent acoustics, the venue offers a unique opportunity to experience live music surrounded by the heritage and charm of one of France's most beautiful medieval villages.

Piano-Bar Under the Halle

As evening falls over Belvès, the historic Halle becomes the setting for a special night of live music with pianist Lalo Zanelli.

Settle in beneath the ancient market hall and enjoy an atmospheric mix of jazz, pop, tango and South American music, with the cafés and restaurants around the square providing the perfect setting for a summer evening in the heart of the village.

Participation is free, with seating provided beneath the Halle. Reservations are recommended.

Each summer, Belvès celebrates the Fête de la Musique with live performances, local artists and music filling the medieval village streets late into the evening. From choirs and acoustic performances to open-air concerts beneath the Market Hall, the event brings together locals and visitors in one of the Dordogne’s most atmospheric village settings.

Messe avec les Trompes

Sunday 26 July 2026 | 11:00am

Experience one of Belvès' most distinctive summer traditions at the beautiful Notre-Dame de l'Assomption Church.

This special Mass is accompanied by Les Trompes Nontronnaises, whose traditional French hunting horns fill the church with a rich and unforgettable sound. Combining music, heritage and local tradition, it is a unique event that celebrates the cultural identity of the Périgord Noir.

After the service, visitors are invited to remain for the Blessing of Dogs and Companion Animals, a much-loved local tradition that welcomes both dogs and other pets.

A cold buffet will then be served in the Parc aux Cèdres (advance reservation required with Traiteur Chatras).

Why Visit?

Even if you're not attending the religious service itself, the magnificent sound of the traditional hunting horns inside Belvès' medieval church makes this a memorable cultural experience. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience an authentic local tradition and see the village at its most welcoming.

Join Classic Lyric Arts for an evening of opera and song in the exceptional setting of Héméra Périgord, overlooking the medieval village of Belvès and the rolling landscapes of the Dordogne Valley.
