Beneath the magnificent covered market hall, enjoy a coffee and fresh pastry while the village slowly comes to life.

Listen to the conversations drifting across the square, admire the honey-coloured stone buildings and soak up the atmosphere before beginning your walk.

Wander Through the Medieval Castrum
Leave Place d'Armes and make your way into Rue Rubigan, entering the oldest part of Belvès.
This is the medieval Castrum.
Follow the narrow lanes as they wind between ancient stone houses.
Discover hidden courtyards.
Walk beneath old archways.
Pause in Impasse Saint-Nicolas, where the original chapel once stood before part of the medieval ramparts collapsed centuries ago.
The beauty of Belvès isn't simply found in its monuments.
It's found in the quiet streets between them.
Look Up – The Seven Bell Towers
Belvès is famously known as the village of the Seven Bell Towers.
As you continue your walk, look upwards.
The skyline is punctuated by churches, former convents and civic buildings whose bell towers have watched over the village for hundreds of years.
Each one tells part of Belvès' remarkable story.
──────── ◆ ────────
Pause for Lunch
By now you've earned it.
Whether you choose a terrace overlooking the valley or a traditional restaurant in the heart of the village, lunchtime is the perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy the flavours of the Périgord Noir.
Take your time.
One of the greatest pleasures of France is never being in a hurry.

The Hidden Viewpoints Walk
After lunch, continue along Rue Manchotte, Belvès' lively shopping street.
At the end, turn left onto Avenue du Lieutenant Giffault.
Walk for a minute.
Then stop.
Turn around.
Before you, the rooftops of medieval Belvès rise towards the magnificent Château de Belvès.
It is one of the finest viewpoints in the village, yet many visitors walk straight past without ever noticing it.
✦
Continue along the avenue, passing Le Parfum des Mets, where the terrace enjoys wonderful views across the valley.
Just beyond the first field on your left, turn into Rue de la Peyrière.
At the end of the road, turn left onto Rue de la Tour du Guet.
Here you'll discover one of Belvès' medieval watchtowers together with another superb viewpoint overlooking the Nauze Valley.
✦
Turn right and continue along Avenue de la Résistance, where a series of panoramic viewpoints reveal the rolling Dordogne countryside below and spectaculat views of Belvès.
Before leaving the avenue, pause for a moment at the peaceful War Memorial, where history and landscape come together beautifully.
✦
Return Along the Ancient Walls
From the War Memorial, turn back the way you came and continue uphill along Rue Pelevade.
The road soon becomes Rue de l'Oiseau Qui Chante, one of the most atmospheric streets in Belvès.
After around six minutes, turn into Rue du Petit Sol.
This quiet lane follows the old fortified walls as it gently climbs back towards the heart of the village.
As you climb, just before the steep hill to the centre of Belvès, look back.
The rear of the magnificent Maison Néogothique suddenly appears — a hidden perspective that many visitors never discover.
Before continuing up the final stretch of the lane, look left towards the end house with a tower.
Mounted on its wall is one of Belvès' most curious historical details: an old anti-begging plaque, a reminder of the regulations that once governed everyday life in the village. It's easy to walk straight past, but once you've spotted it, you'll have uncovered another small piece of Belvès' fascinating history.
✦
Continue uphill to the entrance of the remarkable Troglodyte Dwellings.
From here, it's only a few more steps back into Place d'Armes, where your walk began.
✦
Without realising it, you've completed a beautiful circular journey through centuries of history, hidden viewpoints and some of the most enchanting streets in the Dordogne.

Before leaving, spend a little time exploring Belvès' independent shops.
✦
Browse handcrafted pottery, regional delicacies, local wines, artisan galleries and family-run boutiques.
✦
It's the perfect opportunity to find something unique to remind you of your day in one of France's most beautiful villages.

If You're Visiting in Summer...
Belvès becomes even more magical after sunset.
On Wednesday evenings, the famous Marché Gourmand fills the village with long communal tables, local food, music and laughter.
If you're fortunate enough to visit during Il Était Une Fois Belvès, the village is transformed into a living medieval festival, with knights, musicians, artisans and historic demonstrations bringing centuries of history back to life.
If you can, stay a little longer.
You won't regret it.
──────── ◆ ────────
A Final Thought...
Belvès isn't a village that asks you to rush from one attraction to the next.
It's a place to wander without checking the time.
To stop for photographs.
To admire the view just a little longer.
To discover details that most people miss.
Because long after you've forgotten the route you walked, you'll remember how Belvès made you feel.
